Windshield Repair vs Windshield Replacement

Depending on the damage that you find on your windshield, you may be able to have the windshield repaired rather than completely replaced. When we perform windshield repairs at our dealership, we first inspect the glass to determine if it is safe to repair for you. Some times, small damages occur in areas of the windshield that can decrease its strength or block a driver's vision; these damages are not safe to repair. If we deem that it is safe to repair your vehicle's windshield, our service technicians will use special equipment to fill the damaged area with a clear resin. The resin, which behaves like glue, will fill the damaged area and restore strength to the damaged glass.

If your windshield cannot be repaired, then it will need to be completely replaced. Windshield replacements are done when a windshield has suffered extensive damage, or small damage to an unrepairable area, and can't be safely restored. Between genuine original windshield replacements and third-party replacements, there are several different windshield replacements available. A windshield replacement service is more difficult than a windshield repair and takes many steps to complete correctly. Windshield repairs and windshield replacements both take some time for the chemicals to cure properly. Therefore, you should prepare for a waiting period before bringing your vehicle in for servicing. Allowing the various resins or glues to cure makes sure that the windshields are restored to original standards.

Windshield Care

Windshield care is very important for your safety behind the wheel. When you first notice a problem with your windshield, you should bring your vehicle in for servicing. Unresolved windshield problems can get worse over time. With cracks and chips, normal weather and driving conditions can cause the glass of the windshield to become more stressed. As the windshield glass contracts and expands, a small area of damage can spread throughout the whole windshield. The expansion of damage oftentimes happens suddenly and unexpectedly. Not only can this damage possibly impede your vision of the road ahead, if the glass is struck, it may break as you are traveling.
